Update: March 23 downtime

The Contabo maintenance scheduled for earlier today has concluded without any issues, and rankett.net and this blog are back online, they were restarted less than an hour after the beginning of the maintenance.

I owe an explanation for why the server was down for several hours before noon EDT today. Since I knew that the maintenance would require shutting the server off, I wanted to safely shut down the virtual machine to ensure that there would not be any sort of corruption due to power loss. However, I was planning to be away from home at noon, so I initiated the shutdown several hours before while still home. I apologize for this extra downtime. In the future, if faced with a similar situation I will attempt to plan the shutdown to happen later in the day, closer to when the maintenance is planned to begin.
